Tallgrass Alumn & Wichita Native Bailey Brings "Gracie Rose" Home To The Orpheum, June 21

Wichita’s own Jason Bailey and his Films On Consignment, now based out of New York, will return to their home turf for a special double feature at the Wichita Orpheum on June 21st. First, the group will present a special preview screening of its new feature film GRACIE ROSE at 7pm, followed by a 10th anniversary screening of their breakthrough movie MY DAY IN THE BARREL.

GRACIE ROSE is the story of a young woman (Rebekah Dryden) who toils away in a tiny Kansas town, working nights at a bar, taking care of her grandparents, and mourning the recent death of her soldier husband. When Eddie (Jason Miller), a mysterious stranger, wanders into town, a tentative relationship begins. But the blossoming romance could be destroyed by an astonishing secret in Eddie's past. The film is written and directed by Bailey and  was was shot on location in Wichita, Newton, Haysville, Viola, Conway Springs, and throughout South Central Kansas.

Cinema Alfresco: Politics Under The Stars

A wise man once said, "Politics is entertainment and entertainment is politics," thus the 2008 season of Cinema Alfresco, By the People, For the People: Election Selections kicked off with a bang with the Old Cowtown Screening of MR. SMITH GOES TO WASHINGTON. WAMPA's Cinema Alfresco will continue all summer long with our favorite political blockbusters!

Screenings take place every Thursday from May 29-July 3 at 8:30 PM at The Brickyard in Old Town.

  • All screenings are FREE and Doors Open at 7 PM. (Bring your ID, Under 21 welcome)
  • Cinema Alfreso Specials: Stella Artois - $3 draws, $3.50 bottles abd Brickyard Burger & Fries only $5!
  • Every screening features a drawing for 2 ALL ACCESS PASSES to the Tallgrass Film Festival taking place October 23-26. That's a $250 value! You must be present to win.
  • Not yet registered to vote? No problem, we've got that covered too! The League of Women Voters will be in attendance for 30 minutes prior to screening time to register all eligible voters.

WAMPA Film Production class

Each filmmaking class produces one short film from the pre-production phase to post production. The film will premiere at the Tallgrass Film Festival as part of the Timothy Gruver Spotlight on Kansas Filmmakers, presented by the Kansas Film Commission.
