TFA & Wichita Symphony Orchestra present FOLLOWING THE NINTH

"Thrilling. Smartly assembled and gracefully paced." - The New York Times

"Rarest of films; A documentary as ineffable and transformative in its reach as it sets out to be." - Village Voice

TFA and the Wichita Symphony Orchestra present the acclaimed documentary FOLLOWING THE NINTH which explores the humanitarian, social, and political impact Ludwig van Beethoven's final symphony had on contemporary events.

The screening takes place on Wednesday, March 26 at 7:30 pm at the Orpheum Theatre and will be followed by a Q&A with Director Kerry Candaele and WSO Maestro Daniel Hege.  Tickets are $10 GA/$8 discounted.

The screening precedes the WSO's performances of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony on April 5 and 6 at Century II Concert Hall.

"Following the Ninth," directed by Kerry Candaele, spans five continents where Beethoven's Symphony has played an influential role in social justice events such as the student uprisings at Tiananmen Square in China and the fall of the Berlin Wall.

Bill Moyers calls it a "gem of a movie," and click here to listen to Director Candaele talking about the film on NPR's All Things Considered.

"The work as a whole, and especially the last movement set to Friedrich Schiller's 'Ode to Joy,' has been recognized as one of the greatest examples of music's universal power to inspire, uplift, and unify people around the globe. Its enduring message of unity and brotherhood transcends anything that divides us," says Wichita Symphony Conductor Daniel Hege, who will lead the Orchestra in performances of Beethoven's Ninth on April 5 and 6.

The screening is sponsored by The Arts Council, Fidelity Bank, The Independent School, Living Sound Custom Home Automation, Senseney Music, and Wichita State University, Office of International Education, Study Abroad Program. KMUW Wichita Public Radio and KSN are media sponsors for this event. Special thanks to Hotel at Oldtown.
