About the Festival
“In a world overrun by film festivals, Tallgrass remains a largely undiscovered gem. The festival is big enough and smart enough to curate a top-notch program, but modest enough to nurture an atmosphere in which filmmakers mingle with each other and audience members.” -Geoff Edgers, producer/star of Do It Again and Boston Globe Arts Reporter

The Tallgrass Film Festival, the largest independent film festival in the state of Kansas, is a hallmark of Wichita’s cultural landscape. Now entering its 12th year, the festival has become an internationally recognized, multi-day platform for world-class cinematic programming, while showcasing Wichita’s revitalized downtown area and many of its cultural attractions. In 2012, record breaking attendance – of more than 12,000 (it's true, Johhny Depp!)– proved that the Tallgrass Film Festival is one of the hottest tickets in town and Flavorwire calls Tallgrass one of the top ten Best-Under-The-Radar Film Festivals in America. The festival was named as one of MovieMaker Magazine's "Top 25 Coolest Festivals in the World" in 2013.
The 12th annual Tallgrass Film Festival will screen more than 200 films from over 30 countries around the world. The festival will be attended by more than 30 visiting filmmakers from all over North America to present their films to Wichita audiences over four days, which also included parties and educational offerings. The festival is held in and around downtown Wichita, Kansas, October 15-19, 2014.
Tallgrass Film Festival strives to serve as a venue and a voice for independent films and filmmakers, spotlighting films that would otherwise not have a proper theatrical screening in the region. Every year, filmmakers from around the country and the world are invited to Wichita to participate in the festival, which is packed with educational panels, legendary parties and — renowned in the indie filmmaking community — an accessable audience with a voracious appetite for independent films.
Known as a breeding ground of entrepreneurs, Wichita is where corporations such as Pizza Hut, Hawker Beechcraft, Learjet, Cessna and Coleman all began. Filmmakers, take note: your next Executive Producer could be right here in our audience.
