Vimeo to present Vimeo Audience Awards, Stubbornly Independent Gala & Prize, at 11th annual Tallgrass Film Fest

Tallgrass festival-goers become the jury as TFA partners with Vimeo as branding sponsor for the festival’s cash awards including the Audience Award Winning Narrative ($1,000), Audience Award Winning Documentary ($1,000), and Audience Award Winning Short ($500).

For the second year in a row, Vimeo will also present the Stubbornly Independent Gala – wherein eligible independent films (domestic, narrative films made for $750,000 USD or less with no traditional theatrical distribution at the time of screening) compete for a Gala screening at the Tallgrass Film Festival and a $2,500 cash award furnished by Vimeo. The winning film is chosen by the Tallgrass Programming Committee and will be announced in October. Last year’s winner was THE KITCHEN, by Director Ishai Setton.

The company will provide Vimeo + accounts for the Best Kansas Short Film and the Best Emerging Filmmaker Short Film (18 years and younger.)  The partnership also includes the opportunity for festival films to be included on Vimeo-On Demand.

"As a native Wichitan, I'm always excited and proud to see the amazing films showcased at the Tallgrass Film Festival, especially the films made by fellow Kansans. Encouraging and rewarding these talented filmmakers for their work is not only an honor but effing awesome," said Andrea Allen, Director, Production + Community at Vimeo.

“Our motto is Stubbornly Independent, and Vimeo is a true friend to the independent filmmaker,” said Tallgrass Film Association Executive Director Lela Meadow-Conner. “Look for this year’s festival to focus more on the art, process and business of filmmaking and of course, the indie filmmakers – we wouldn’t have a festival without them. Tallgrass also seeks to offer resources and opportunities to Wichita and the Heartland region’s film community, which grows exponentially every year.”

Vimeo is also sponsor of Tallgrass Filmmaker’s Lab “Down to the Wire: 24 Hour Film Race,” where the winning filmmaking team receives a $1,000 filmmaking grant from Vimeo.
