Gala: The festival features four gala films, featuring exceptional subjects that the Tallgrass Film Assoication has chosen to spotlight for the Wichita community. Filmmakers and/or subjects attend each screening.
U.S. Documentary: These non-fiction films, made by American filmmakers, tell real-life stories, and shine a light on real-life issues.
U.S. Narrative: From American filmmakers, these films tell nuanced stories in various genres, from comedy to drama to thriller.
World Documentary: These non-fiction works are made by filmmakers from around the world and transport us to foreign lands so that we may see the world through another lens.
World Narrative: Dramatic offerings from foreign filmmakers, these stories offer another perspective on the world around us.
Shorts Programs: Shorts programs include short films from around the world and serve as examples of narrative, documentary, animation and experimental filmmaking.
Tallgrass Film Festival spotlights the following special interest genres:
Free Films Friday: This selection of educational films is free for Wichita area students, teachers and senior community (65+) with valid I.D.
Grassroots: Featuring films about social issues worldwide.
Grasscendo Program: Features musically-themed films.
Greengrass Program: Features films with environmental themes.
Joel Fein Emerging Filmmakers Program: Named for a mentor of the festival, this program features short films made by student filmmakers from around the world.
LGBT: This program includes films with a lesbian, gay, bi or transgender theme.
Late Night/Midnight Movies: Presented at in the late evening or just before midnight, these films range from cult to camp to thriller.
Spotlight on Women Filmmakers: This program spotlights our feature films with women directors, writers and producers.
Spotlight on Scandinaviam Cinema: Features films and filmmakers from Scandinavia including Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden.
Smallgrass: Presented with Exploration Place, Smallgrass features a selection of films for children ages 3 and up. Screenings will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2013 at Exploration Place. KPTS is media sponsor.
Stubbornly Independent Films: Features a selection of domestic, narrative films made for under $750,000 USD. Winner will be screened at Stubbornly Independent Gala.
Timothy Gruver Spotlight on Kansas Filmmakers: Named for late festival founder Timothy Gruver, this program features films made by Kansas filmmakers.
